>!The ethnicity of Enrico Pucci? Seriously, I know people have their headcanons and some people love the idea of an anime villain that can be identified as Black. However, it does a grave misjustice to the artist and to the JoJo Fandom when people float around asserting that Pucci is Black simply for having tan skin and that we as the fans are somehow "whitewashing" him by countering said claim. How the f*** do you whitewash a character that the author has literally identified as belonging to a certain ethnic group?

In the manga and the anime it is clearly shown that Pucci, Weather, and Enrico are the descendants of Italians who can exhibit different skin tones/skin undertones like so: https://italianthro.blogspot.com/2019/06/olive-skin-and-other-undertones.html?m=1

The anime opted to give Pucci's father tanner skin to help rectify the misunderstanding amongst fans that Pucci was Black/was the love child from an affair his mother had with a Black man (how this became "canon" to fans I will never know). This change was supposed to get the fans to understand that Pucci's skin tone was hereditary and confirmed his Italian ethnicity but alas this just made the "fans" double down on their assertions about Pucci's ethnicity.

In SparkNotes form we are told in the story by the narrator:

1) Weather is Pucci's fraternal twin and is simply Italian. If Pucci and/or Weather were illegitimate children from an affair from a Black man Mrs. Pucci had Araki would have stated as such. 2) Weather was kidnapped and raised by a woman who had a relationship with Black man. 3) The detective that Pucci hired obviously has his ways of getting information and would have determined that Weather's adopted mother had a relationship with a Black man. 4) The detective openly expresses shock that Weather is "Black" because while he has fair skin and blue eyes (classically European features) his supposed father is Black. 5) Araki through the narration demonstrated at least a surface level familiarity with what the KKK are and who they tend to target; it's not perfect in every sense but it's a no-brainer that as a white supremacist group the KKK goes after individuals who don't look European *NOTE: Although they usually targeted Catholics and Italians in history as well due to dwindling numbers they focused more on individuals who don't pass as European. 5) The detective and his friends were racists who targeted and lynched Weather because they thought he was Black. They also burned his adoptive mother's house to the ground because they hate race mixing.

With all of this in mind by implication:

1) The detective could have pried into Pucci's past since he's a detective and would have seen Pucci's family heredity 2) The detective would have seen that Pucci's family are Italians (which are Europeans) 3) Depending on how "white supremacist" you want to state that the detective is then you could view his hatred as stemming less from an Anglo-Centric version of white supremacy to more of a Eurocentric version.

Here's what this information should allow people to conclude:

1) Pucci and his family are not of mixed heritage (at least not within three generations or so). If the detective investigated Pucci's family and got any inkling that one of his parents was Black they may have set his home on fire as well and possibly lynched him.

2) The detective didn't simply "overlook Pucci'a race" for the job. If he had such a deep seated animosity towards race-mixing why would he agree to help out a Black man? It seems out of character. It is baffling to see people cobble together the most convoluted answers as to why Pucci was unharmed instead of accepting the simple answer: Pucci and Weather are Italian, but Weather was mistaken for being Black due to circumstance.

3) Why would the detective care about race mixing if he found out Pucci was Black? Perla is his sister, and as we have seen this detective is a bigot that isn't too bright. He may have concluded that Perla despite appearing European was Black as well. He might not have cared or the story could have been more drastic - Weather and Perla could end up lynched. Maybe even Pucci as well. It doesn't make logical sense to insist that Pucci was Black because then that means Perla would be considered Black, too.

It just baffles me. You can have your headcanons, but you can't also assert they are canon, too, just to make the story fit your narrative. And those of you pushing this race baiting nonsense should be ashamed of your reading comprehension levels and ashamed of the narrative you are pushing for. Pucci is a great and compelling character.

We don't need to assert that he's Black just for a sense of representation, and we don't need to assert that anyone who is tan is by default of African descent because tan skin isn't just restricted to people descended from ancestors on that continent. You shouldn't be guilt tripping people for pushing back on your false assertions.!<
