When married, can your spouse's hearts decay? If so, what triggers it? I am on console (Switch) if that makes a difference.

I fear if I gift Leah the wrong things too often, her hearts will decay. I don't want that to happen, hence why I'm asking what needs to be done in order to lose hearts. And I feel like Googling it isn't giving me a clear cut answer.
