Just a console player with a question about 1.6.

Hello, so I'm fairly new at Stardew Valley, I've only been playing for a couple weeks now (IRL) and I was just wondering will I have to start a whole new playthrough when 1.6 drops for consoles?. I'm only at the end of my first spring on the playthrough I'm doing now, and I'm just wondering if it's worth trying to push forward with it, or just wait till I get the update and start fresh with all the new fancy things that's dropped.
