So, I recently watched a couple of different youtube channels that covered the Paramount-Skydance media merger talks, and both of them have different takes on the merger & what it would mean for Star Trek, even though they both cover more or less the same points as each other.
Both channels say that should the merger/acquisition actually go through, Alex Kurtzman & Secret Hideout would NOT be thrown out. In fact, Skydance would likely extend the current contract that Kurtzman currently has out further for another five years, taking it all the way to 2031. This is of course where the two channels differ on the news.
One of them has been covering the different news regarding the different companies interested in Paramount for a while now, especially in regards to Star Trek, but it seems that no other company seems to have more influence on Paramount than Skydance. They're seemingly the reason why Star Trek: Lower Decks is ending with season 5, but Strange New Worlds was given a 4th season. as it goes in hand with what they'd like to focus in on with Star Trek, which is the live action TV series.
The other youtube channel says this is overall a bad move in Skydance's part by keeping Kurtzman where he is, since he & his company are the part of the reason why Star Trek & Paramount overall are in the position they are in.
The fact that Alex Kurtzman is apparently not being forced out by the new owners AND may even get a contract extension is likely NOT what any of you want to hear, but it's none the less something this subreddit should be made aware of.
