Tips for playing as the Empire?

Hi y'all, so just to get to it, I do much better with the New Republic ships than the Imps. I want to improve on the Empire I just can't get the feel of the ships. They feel clunky, the lasers seem to run out extremely fast(even as I do the power shunting)And no shields. Just looking for some advice/tips
