What I'm asking is: what is one theory you have personally that you really hope to be true, or you think would be true for TFA? It can be one of the ones that is commonly thrown around, or one you have on your own (that's probably preferred; new stuff to discuss), or maybe even one of each.

As for a common theory, I'm a big proponent of the Smoke is Plagueis theory, or at least that Plagueis is the connecting force (no pun intended) between the PT, the OT, and the new stuff. If done right I feel that it has immense potential to present an incredible villain.

My personal theory (and admittedly I've seen this a few places, but not too many) is that it will turn out that Maz was a youngling that escaped the temple, or wasn't there when Anakin had his massacre. The theory originated when I heard that Lupita N'yongo would be playing a mocap character. First off, usually when an actress/actor of that caliber is cast there is a bigger plan in mind, so I assumed she was due for something big. She also seem like the type to play a villain, so I assumed it would be some sort of significant good guy. Then stuff about her potentially having force powers leaked and this came together for me. It would be another great tie in for the new stuff and the PT, as she would provide a viewpoint that hasn't been presented too much outside of the brief view we see from Kanan in Rebels; a padawan with unfinished training that had to do it on their own. Obviously there is Luke, but it could be argued that his training was complete.
