Okay, so I recognize that much of this sub hates all the Revan and Plagueis circle-jerking that has been going on. But, all I ask is that you play my game for a minute , hear me out, and feel free to downvote me to oblivion if you don't like the idea.
Here goes, there are few things that we know that seem to point to some sort of super duper evil-doer being at the crux of this new trilogy.
1.) Luke is believed to be guarding some sort of sith castle/lair. 2.) Lucas' desire to have this new trilogy tie both of the previous ones together, without really having a living good guy that is capable of doing this. (And I would say the odds of a dead good guy coming back to like are easily worse than 3720-1) 3.) The secrecy surrounding Snoke. He's mo-cap so we have no idea what in the hell he will look like. This adds to both the intrigue and speculation. His toy action figure is not scheduled to be released until January, a month after the release of the movie. Why would Disney allow this if they weren't trying to hide something? And what would there be to hide if this was a brand new character? 4.) This is the least concrete of them, but the actor who portrayed Dak in ESB says that the bad-guy in this movie will be quite powerful and intimidating, and downright scary (I forget his exact quote, but it is something along those lines).
What does all this mean? -There is a bad guy that is trying to be kept at bay (be it his essence, body, or what have you). -This character will tie in in some way with both previous trilogies (Sorry, Revan not confirmed). -And this bad guy will likely be a super powerful being that has already appeared, or been mentioned, in prior films.
Options: Palpatine, Vader, Dooku, Maul, Plagueis.
Logically ruling out Dooku and Maul, we are left with three. Then, because he turned good again at the end of RoTJ, we can rule out Vader (unless they do some clone crap, but I doubt that). This leaves us with two. As for Palpatine, he has nothing new to add and would simply rehash all of the old things we have dealt with for six movies. Also, there is no way he would have been able to lay low for 30 years.
That leaves us with Plagueis. Now, we've all seen the concept art thing with what appears to be him above Rey, but that only means so much. One of the biggest anti-Plagueis things I've seen has to do with his ashes having been cremated and stored in Palpatine's office. That is an indisputable fact, unless they ignore it in which case, whatever. We are all well-versed in what Plagueis was trying to accomplish, eternal life. He hated the concept of essence transfer, but sometimes you are left with no choice. Palpatine still believed him to be alive, or at least existing in the aether.
Sorry for the tangent, but this does bring me to my ultimate point. What if Plagueis' essence is still in existence and that it has taken a hold of Snoke (or some weird baby thing depending on how old Snoke is). Or, Plagueis has mastered the ability of essence transfer to the point where he can reincarnate his body under certain circumstances. Much like a force ghost, except a force being brought back from peril.
Yes, its crazy and a bit out there. But looking at it logically I saw two options: Plagueis or Sith Luke. I don't think that Lucas, or Disney for that matter, would want to take their face of the franchise and make him a bad guy. I haven't quite figured out how this ties in with Kylo Ren yet, but I feel like the big reveal will be at the end of the movie when Plagueis is resurrected and it will have something to do with Kylo Ren. That could even be the impetus for the theories about him turning to the light side after seeing what he's done.
I think Revan will 100% not be the film, but I give Plagueis a 50/50 chance, regardless of what Abrams said at SDCC. I apologize for my train of thought not exactly staying on the tracks, just had a lot of ideas to throw out there and I wanted to see what the sub thought.
