This quote from A New Hope had us believe that Obi-Wan and Vader’s last encounter was the duel on Mustafar. After all, Vader was but a learner in the dark side at that time. But in episode 3 of this series, Vader is far from a “learner.” Frankly, he dominates Obi-Wan and easily could have killed him if it weren’t for his desire to torture him first.
To me, this just doesn’t seem reconcilable with A New Hope. It should have already been apparent that Vader was a master at that point, thus making the “learner” comment unnecessary. Perhaps Obi-Wan redeems himself against Vader later on in this series, thus leading Vader to say the “learner” comment as he still had to prove himself to be a master. But as of right now, it seems like a plot hole.
Does anyone else feel me on this? Is anyone else irked by this? Should I just shut up and enjoy the show?
