I like to play in windowed mode but If I try to change the size of the window it crashes

I like to play in windowed mode because I can access discord and other applications while I’m playing the game which full screen will crash if I try to do. However if I try to adjust the size of the window the game will crash. The size I have it at is nice currently, however there has been plenty a time when I get unlucky and accidentally click on the sides of the window, crashing my game and losing progress. When it crashes its gives this message:

D3D9 Application

“Could not reset the Direct3D device.

This application will now exit.”

Anyone know a fix?
