Looking at legends stuff there seemed to be some narriative of the darkside and lightside being morally equal and its bad people that make the dark side bad. I always hated this and im glad it got left behind and was not introduced into the sequel triology and it always seemed contrary to the themes of the storh and nature of the force set up in the first movies. The idea of the light and dark side being two morally equal halves of a generic magic system is so boring to me.
The only think i can think of close to this in the new canon is the bendu but i think his portrayal is fitting. his inaction allows the empire to triump even harder than they would have when attacking the rebel base on his homeworld. He is trying to balence 2 opposing ideals and pretending they are nonconflicting and it lead to him being inactive and "neutral" on everything, leading to a greater loss of life when things go wrong and he has to choose what he believes in.
