I'm taking a screenwriting class (because it's required for the Game Design degree) and (being a non-creative person who HATES writing) I chose to make an adaptation of Heir to the Empire. I'm generally a purist, so unless ABSOLUTELY necessary, I don't like changes to source material.
I'm curious as to two things, specifically. First: What would the opening crawl be? I feel like there are 3 important things that need to be communicated. 1) The time period after RotJ. 2) That, regardless of the death of Vader and the Emperor, the Empire is still a highly organized military organization, and would still exist, so there's been ongoing fighting since RotJ, and 3) Han and Leia got married. Maybe 3 might be apparent in the story, but I don't remember any dialogue establishing it specifically. (and again, wanting to change the material as little as possible, I don't know that I would want to add that dialogue).
Second: What changes would you make, and why? So far, there's only 1* change I can think of that I'm REALLY considering making, and that's tweaking a conversation about the cloning tubes, so that it's clear they aren't related to the Clone Wars. I mean, the novel was written before AotC, and I think there might be some needed changes to update the story to remove conflicts with newly established canon. Though, I wonder if anyone else would consider ignoring the prequels entirely.
*The only other thing that I'd think about changing (but wouldn't) is the Clone's names, Joruus, Luuke. I always feel like that's silly, and wouldn't translate to film and spoken language well.
So, what do others think? What changes would you make, and what would do you think the opening crawl should be?
