Can someone explain Ahsoka Tano?

I'm just curious how or if they ever explain how Anakin Skywalker had an apprentice in the Clone Wars movie and show, but in Episode III, he is never given the rank of Master. I've watched all the main movies, seen the Clone Wars movie and a bit of the series (it's on my list of stuff to watch) but to be honest, I'm curious, lazy and I'm sure there is someone out there like me who genuinely enjoys explaining things like this.
