I remember an issue of Star Wars Insider where they did some retrospective on the prequels and George Lucas was talking about a painter whose work had inspired him to create certain color schemes for the films. This artist's earlier paintings were washes of bright, primary colors, but as his mental health deteriorated, the colors became darker until his final paintings were just washes of black. This was reflected in the prequels; in TPM, the hero is a small boy so there are a lot of childlike primary colors; lots of oranges, greens, blues, etc. AOTC gets a little murkier with muted hues like grays, dull blues, and lots of mist and haze to reflect the uncertain "gray areas" of the story. ROTS is VERY contrasty and dark, with lots of shadows and darkness; there are even shots that are duplicates of shots from TPM but side by side, you notice that the newer shots are very shadowy.
I thought this was all very interesting but I can't find the article and I can't for the life of me remember who this artist was. I've looked all over the internet and have not been able to find any mention of him. Anyone else remember this discussion and what the name of the artist was?
