The singular thing that bothers me the most about the entire franchise... [Mini Rant]. Not TLJ "Space Physics" or Prequel memery.

Post Body

Pretext: I've always been a Star Wars fan. My personal views are:

  • Original Trilogy is "Star Wars" - Could go into detail on why i think this or what I mean by it but that's not what this post is about.
  • Prequels were bad but have their place and broaden the universe.
  • Sequels are good and over-criticized
  • Spinoffs were fantastic.

Now that that is out of the way. You see who I am as a Fan. Now you can take what I'm about to reveal in context.

The biggest issue I have with Star Wars is Boba Fett's helmet paint job. It changes between ESB and ROTJ.

Exhibit A - https://i.imgur.com/NvtBGPU.jpg

Arguments:

  • Could have multiple helmets
  • Could have repainted it in the interim
  • Could be an imposter posing as Boba Fett

1 - Could have Multiple Helmets. Judging by the gear changes between ESB and ROTJ it only stands to reason that a man of Fett's stature and ability would have Job-specific or replacement parts for his entire outfit. You can see that in the changing of the gauntlet style and damage on other parts of his armor. Different armor. Fine. This doesn't stand for the helmet because of the dent. It's the same helmet.

2 - Could have Repainted it in the interim. Entirely plausible that he gave it a fresh coat to spruce it up a bit between episodes. However this leaves the issue of the physical damage. The dent is still there and still shiny like an impact. So unless right after he painted it up he took a wire brush to clear off the dent we have an issue. Now there could be the possibility that the outer layer of his helmet is the only layer that the space paint can stick on, thus the dent would remain unpainted but I don't really see that being a reality, even in space wizard lazer sword universe.

3 - Could be an imposter. Given the similarity of the equipment and armor but not quite being the same armor we see in ESB it's entirely possible it's an imposter as Boba Fett in ROTJ, which would also explain the incompetence at the Sarlacc Pit and his resulting death. Not sure if there is a canon source that refutes this.

This continuity error, when examined, calls into question a number of things which people can go crazy with speculation or hatred over.

Does this bother me personally? Yes it does. Fett is my favorite character and after building fett costumes and examining pretty much every scene frame by frame this kills me.

It's also lasted for decades and nobody really gives a damn about it but me. People generally enjoy the movies and move on.

What I don't do is tell people everywhere why ROTJ is a sham because of a helmet paint job.

Maybe we can use this example as to why errors in continuity in Star Wars or some iffy dialogue or some Sci Fi physics liberties taken don't really matter in the long run.

Long live Star Wars.

It's the same helmet. At celebration Orlando they showed an unfinished clip of fett getting shot in the helmet during a duel causing that dent in the top. I don't think he would have multiple helmets with the same dent.

Noy trying to shit on your favorite character but I wouldnt even consider him a tier 2.

Did the original costume get destroyed or lost or maybe thrown away because he was just a small roll and they didnt think he would be a fan favorite and decided to add him into Rotj?
