So we all know that in the end of a new hope after Luke blows the Death Star up that after the mission is over the rebels assemble for a medal ceremony to celebrate the battle, but does the timing of this celebration actually make much sense?
Surely the rebels must have been thinking that an imperial counter attack was almost certainly rushing towards yavin, that the very minute that the empire lost contact with the DS that they were scrambling all ships in the area to prepare to launch an attack and that the secret rebel base was no longer a secret. Now clearly in cannon they had enough time to celebrate and evacuate but at the time for this perspective the rebels would have not known that. The time it took to get all set up and every dressed and ready and assembled for the ceremony would have been valuable time for the rebels to have got a head start demobing the base and loading up shuttles especially given that a huge chunk of yavins star fighter force was just wiped out between scarif and yavin leaving them with less then desirable amount of fighter cover left. I know itโs just a story in a movie but itโs an interesting perspective and in my opinion a waste of valuable time.
