Hi all! I'm watching season 4, the main conflict between characters occurs between Michael and Book as the former wants to reach out peacefully to a new species while the latter wants to destroy their deadly technology. This is presented as an either / or choice but I don't get it. Why wouldn't reaching out peacefully be Plan A and destroying their tech be Plan B, if Plan A fails? This would be the most obvious course of action and is a compromise that probably everyone would agree on, likely including Book. It feels like the writers ignored this elephant in the room in order to force characters into conflict. As a result these episodes feel pretty flimsy (at least, to me). However, if someone can provide a convincing explanation that's suggested by the show itself I'm down to hear it!
Edit: people have pointed out that Book just wasn't willing to give the DMA a chance to destroy more worlds in the meantime. Thanks everyone.
