I need to understand the pity system

So im trying to wrap my head around the pity system JUST IN CASE I DON’T GET KAFKA on the first 50/50 roll..

I currently have 100 passes which i saved for Kafka, I know the games pity system will kick in and give me a 5 star character. So if i obtain another 100 passes ONLY IF I FAILED THE FIRST PITY, Kafka being the promotional pull I’m guaranteed her correct? I dont mind putting money into the game since i enjoy star rail. :>

I’m just trying to wrap my head around the pity system because I’ve been dying for Kafka since i even started the game and saw the leaks so she my must have..
