Is material sounding like a sermon good or bad?
Post Body

I have been working on material by taking notes all day. I then wind up compiling it to what I think is a sensible narrative, running it for myself and then...I havenā€™t hit an open mic. I know I need to get out there, and I have a definite date set, the location, and THE JOKE. Iā€™m worried about time constraints. I know I will not have the luxury of an open ended set, but I know the ā€œfinished productā€ runs at least 15, and thatā€™s without laughs. Being that this is my first one, and I know that in order to do it justice I am going to need some time to flesh out the concept. Do I just find somewhere that will let me run it? Iā€™m finding myself not at all writing one liners or anything like that, but things that need a bit more time to explain. I know that many comedians have had jokes that almost seem like sermons with a punchline, and Iā€™m not sure what to do with that. Stop being a bitch, shut the fuck up on Reddit, get to a mic and see what happens? Iā€™m trying to go about this as professionally as possible, and Iā€™m looking for some help.
