This feels very Nanette-esque in that a lot of comedians in my timelines are arguing what "counts" as stand-up comedy and who "gets" to do stand-up. Where with Nanette the debate was, "What is comedy?", this feels like, "Who gets to do comedy?"
I don't remember there being nearly this much 'outrage' when Jeremy Piven started going around doing one-night only Thursday night sets. He's horrid—I did a late night show to the remaining crowd after his headlining set. But comics, at most, were making fun of how unfunny he is. With Stormy, people are arguing if she 'gets' to do stand-up.
Now, the Texas gig is an independently-produced Wednesday night show. No one lost a headlining weekend. No one got bumped that shouldn't. This is a dark night of the week where clubs have all sorts of shows come through: fundraisers, music stuff, indie showcases from a producer, magicians. Why can't Stormy book her own one-night only engagement and we can make fun of how funny or not she was? I find this way less outrageous than the porn stars that take actual spots from real comics who do the work all over Los Angeles.
