Genuine question because I have never owned an Xbox.

If I want to play online games like destiny 2 on Xbox, do I need to pay anything?

I seem to remember years ago that being the case and people were angry for having to pay Microsoft for the use of their own internet, but I was on the outside of that community looking in.

Anyway, if I would have to pay a fee to play destiny on Xbox then the anger around destiny 2 doesn't make much sense to me. Sure I could play for free on my PC (assuming I had APC that could play it) without extra cost, but when it comes to console parity, it kinda makes sense.

If the answer is no I don't have to pay a sub with Xbox to play destiny 2 then I can see some of the anger with it being behind a pay wall.

That said, being able to buy expansions, which we would have to do on any other system for that content, on the free tier kinda balances that our, doesn't it? Then I could play destiny 2 no sub required.

Just to clarify this is purely a question about comparing few structures on other platforms, not a question about whether founders deserve d2 or not. I think both sides have beaten that dead horse into paste.
