Using SD as a concept art tool for 3D modeling

Post Body

I was curious about using SD for a while specifically as a tool that can provide references to me. For example, I've been craving about creating Astore of Solaire from Dark Souls in a form of final boss.

In this case I need to make sure that the renders provided will not only give me the idea of how it will look in general, but practically give me a clue on how the particular object will look from different positions (mostly front, side and back).

I was wondering if anyone figured out how to use SD from that perspective?
