I recently documented my experience working with Stable Diffusion on my relatively ancient AMD R9 200 series video card with 3GB of VRAM. It's not super technical (and assumes you have Automatic1111 or something like it already working), but it explains how I use an external app to generate all the 'first draft' images, then refine them into something resembling "photorealism" (circa 2005) using my video card.
Hope this helps someone else!
