Recipes from the Hill
Post Body

In 1910 my ancestors came over from Sicily and settled on the Hill. One of them, my great-grandmother Pietrina, brought with her from the old world a recipe for meatballs. I still have this recipe, and from time to time I use it... producing the attached results. I might make them tonight, we'll see. But cooking only for yourself is a bummer.

  • 1/3 lb of ground beef
  • 1/3 lb of salsciccia
  • 1/3 lb of ground veal
  • Half cup of ricotta cheese,
  • Half cup of parm cheese
  • Cup of breadcrumbs
  • Season with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, and oregano.
  • Add a dash of water
  • Mix well, form the balls, plunk them in sauce raw, and let them slow cook
