Obviously, I'm exaggerating but in my opinion choosing Sammy has one of the pillars has been a casting mistake by AEW. He was only truly over with everyone when he was Jericho's protégé.
He needs to rely on his excellent in ring skills by risking injuring himself doing crazy stunts to get a pop from the crowd.
There are some many more young talent that should be seen as the future of AEW. For example, Kip Sabian, who was also part of AEW since day one, is much better on the mic and has also the in ring skills to get over with the fans. They did him dirty.
Sammy should already be much better on the mic and how to get over with fans. He was 2 years with Chris Jericho for f sake. If he didn't get better until now I think he won't be much better in the future. The only thing he managed to ger now was go away heat with the fans.

Sabian was on TV and on the mic more than Sammy until last March, when Sabian was sidelined by a shoulder injury that required surgery and 6-9 months of recovery
The "Four Pillars" thing happened in an MJF promo on September 29, 2021, specifically designed to build heat for MJF. He said
Four Pillars. You got Jungle Boy. Beat him. You got Sammy Guevara. Beat him. You got Darby Allin, whatever, and then you have the strongest pillar, the most important pillar, the pillar who had the first match at All In, the pillar who had the first match in the history of this company, the pillar who is the youngest athlete ever to main event an AEW Pay Per View, The pillar who is a 2 time beautiful Dynamite Diamond Ring champion, the pillar who's better than you and you know it, And that pillar's name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
Jungle Boy lost the opening match of that episode to Adam Cole, and then came back out for Bryan's confrontation with the Elite.
Darby Allin had a 6 man tag match that night, and also confronted MJF at the end of his promo.
Sammy won the TNT championship immediately after the promo.
This wasn't some grand announcement about who the young foundation of AEW are. It was MJF acknowledging the three guys in his age bracket who were on the program that night - one of whom was about to win a belt - and declaring himself better than any of them.
Sure, the merch department ran with it and other wrestlers built on it because good promos have staying power. But... was MJF supposed to compare himself to an injured wrestler who hadn't been on TV in 6 months instead of reminding the audience he'd beaten the guy who was about to become TNT champ?

those four and only those four as "the four pillars"? I don't remember that being the case prior to MJF's promo, but I may be remembering incorrectly.
I'd heard them individually described in similar terms, but I'd also heard that about Sabian, Orange Cassidy, Britt Baker, Isiah Cassidy/Private Party, and later additions like Ricky Starks and the Acclaimed.
Even after the MJF promo you had Khan demuring saying there's more than 4 and Cody disavowing the promo. There were also almost immediately people in the company saying this or that wrestler belonged on the list without mentioning who they'd take off (or saying it would be MJF, though that's got to be at least partially kayfabe shots at the heel).
