If anyone remembers back to Tough Enough III, they might remember one-half of the winners, John Henningan (now known at Johnny Impact/Mundo/Blackcraft fka John Morrison/Nitro).
One name you may not remember is Matt Cappotelli, the co-inner. Cappotelli trained in OVW for around a year, winning the Heavyweight title, and was about to make his debut on the main roster, when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. The tumor was removed in 2007, but he chose not to continue wrestling. In 2013, he chose to become a trainer for OVW, teaching Beginners Classes, and giving back to the new generation of professional wrestling, supporting young men and women in achieving what he unfortunately couldn't. Matt passed away last June after his cancer returned.
The Warrior Award is "exhibited unwavering strength and perseverance, and who lives life with the courage and compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of the Ultimate Warrior." Matt Cappotelli embodied this spirit, and he seeked to support the future of pro wrestling. Even after his illness, he refused to give up, and returned to the business he loved as a fan, and he gave back to it.
Cappotelli deserves the award.
