Is it possible to end my current call and accept an incoming call?

I've had sprint for years with an iPhone 5, 6s and now 7. I've never successfully dropped my current call to answer an incoming call. No matter what I've tried, it always ends my current call and declines the incoming call. I can take the incoming call put the current caller on hold, and can even switch back, but if I ever try to end either either call, it hangs up on both.
Is that a sprint thing or an iPhone thing or am I doing something wrong?
