With the disbanding of Maxis' Emeryville branch and the threat of server shutdown looming, the concept of a sequel to Spore is becoming more and more unlikely.
However, I think there is still hope for an indie reboot, because there's money to be made - if 2 million copies were sold and you have ONE PERCENT of them buying "Spore 2" at 20 bucks apiece, that's 200,000 dollars.
With regards to EA being nasty, they've actually been somewhat reasonable about reboots of old games - see War for the Overworld, a Dungeon Keeper reboot whose full release recently hit Steam.
But enough about how. Time to talk about what I'd want:
-Firstly, full-resolution world textures for buildings. It would be a relatively small change but would make it so much nicer when building cities or colonies, which is a very common Space Stage occurence. Updated visuals in general would be nice but this is the most critical bit.
-Secondly, I want to be able to completely prevent biodisasters on my colonies with the application of both bio-protection devices, and likewise with pirates using an Uber Turret. I'm okay with Grox attacks remaining - engaging them is supposed to be a substantial task.
-Thirdly, if possible, I'd like a Realistic (hardcore-ish) mode - creatures you make are checked for practicality, as in whether or not the design makes any sense, and if you die your species dies with you.
