This process is so disheartening.
I spent the last 2 years dedicated to treating my acne through skincare. My skin was the clearest it’s been in over a decade. Left with scars and occasional cystic acne on my chin but that didn’t bother me as much.
A month ago I started to take Spironolactone to treat high testosterone levels. I have PCOS. I can’t even look in the mirror anymore. My face is mostly red and the texture is so bad. Makeup looks terrible but it at least covers the redness.
I read this process can take months. But is it really worth it? Im worried about the aftermath (hyperpigmentation). My skin scars with even the tiniest pimple.
I would appreciate any advice or learn about your experience! Any tips to help with acne/redness in the meantime? I started drinking spearmint tea daily. How did you deal with the hyperpigmentation? Makeup tips? I honestly would rather wear no makeup, but I host meetings and presentations at work and I’m too self conscious to do that barefaced. How to help with the skin peeling?
Dosage: 50mcg 2x a day Conditions: Hyperthyroidism, High Testosterone, Vitamin D dificiency Skincare: Toner, retinol, moisturizer, SPF
the incorrect dose can cause flares... I was on 100mgs and having issues, spoke to my Derm who said this can happen and we increased it to 150. boom. problem solved.
can you get on a BC that's approved for treating acne? there's only a handful..
in the meantime for a topical treatment I'd recommend apple cider vinegar.. (you can google this). it's anti-microbial, great for scarring and treating inflammation. i do ACV baths for my HS (bodily cystic acne, basically). you absolutely MUST dilute it.. again you can google the measurement recommendations here but it's a super cheap way of helping.
