Sooo...After years, I finally have made my way to reading the celebrated JMS run of Amazing Spider-Man. And I'm honestly really digging it. And I've made my way through to the Ezekiel side of things and I've kinda been turned off. Like most the good will the run built has been severely deflated.
I really do not care for the retcon that an ancient spider spirit is the reason Peter has his powers. It's like Michael Myers. It loses its mystique and interest when you explain it. I don't like that Peter was 'destined' for this. And I don't like bringing the supernatural into Spider-Man it just...doesn't feel like it fits.
So fellow web-heads, am I just an idiot being too nit-picky? What side of the fence do you stand on? Do you prefer it was just that Peter happened to be there when he got bit and it could've been anyone? Or do you prefer Peter being a 'Spider Totem' and it being destiny? Why do you prefer either narrative?
