I’ve been grinding this game for the past couple months and I finally got a run I’m quite happy with. I got pretty decent rng in the beginning, bad rng in the Escort section, and excellent fights in the Lab.

If you don’t know, Costume Quest 2 is an rpg about these kids who are trying to stop this evil Dentist from canceling Halloween. There are multiple costumes throughout the game that you get to battle with and do some quests in the overworld. This game was made by the good people at Double Fine, the creators of Psychonauts.

For the most part, the speedrun is you play the entire game with some speed tricks every now and then. There is RNG, most of which comes down to how many enemies you fight in a battle. Beating the battles fast is all about using cards to your advantage. One called Suck’ems allows one character to attack twice in one turn. Nubbins is anothe let powerful card seen through boss fights, which doubles the damage of one character for two turns. This is especially useful for special moves which do a lot of damage. The Pumpkin, Superhero, and Jefferson costumes are the three strongest costumes in the game and ultimately what we end up using throughout the run. Pumpkins special does 1/2 HP to all enemies, Superhero special can damage multiple enemies, and Jefferson is strong has nice type advantage over a lot of the enemies. The middle part of the game is the most execution heavy and the only world where we skip battling, other than the boss. One of the major tricks in the run is rail grinding with roller skates. By grinding against chests or objects in the overworld, you can levitate for a certain height.

This game is pretty fun speedrun is anyone wants to try it out. None of the tricks are overly difficult, and most of it is getting through fights faster, and all the bosses have consistent setups. There are two variants: NG and NG . The main different is that there is a major glitch in the game we call Garlic Speed, which uses the Garlic Crunch card obtained late in the game to speed up battles at 2x speed. It was recently found out 6 months ago that using the card in battle and then quitting the game and loading a new file keeps the 2x speed property. We have a separate filter for that as a result, NG . This run is done in NG, so at normal speed without the Garlic speed glitch.
