About early terrestrial fungi

Post Body

I have a question regarding the evolution of Fungi, after watching some docus and reading wikipedia there seems to be paleontological agreement that Fungi colonized the land long before plants and animals did, however since Fungi are typically decomposers and neither plants nor animals were present at the time what did those early terrestrial fungi feed on and also how did they make the transition onto land exactly? I find fungi very interesting and am looking to understand these mechanisms to apply them onto my own biosphere :)
