I work as a cashier in North Jersey. The demographic of the Spanish speaking community here is mostly Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Ecuadorians, Colombians and Central Americans.
I have a list of phrases that I want to express in Spanish but Google Translate doesn’t seem all that reliable. I want to be helpful but also respectful. May someone with retail experience help a cashier out?
• please enter your number into the keypad
• try inserting your card instead. The system is a little weird like that.
• let’s try that again.
• you have ____ dollars on your account. Would you like to use them on this transaction?
• without saying the year, when is your birthday?
• are you returning an item?
• and you’re buying those?
• we can use the money from the return toward your purchase.
• the money has been returned to your card
• do you want a larger bag?
• without the receipt, you’ll get store credit or a gift card.
• is this a gift? Do you want a gift receipt?
• is anyone else authorized to pick this item up?
• did you place this order? Or are you an authorized person?
• did you still want to get this?
• (after releasing a security tag) oh finally, thank god
