Hi everyone. I just shared some ideas for Ops and Eternal War modes on the community ideas page.
I’ve seen similar ideas going around but wanted to hear what you guys think. Any thoughts feedback very much welcome. Cheers!
Title: IDEAS FOR PVE AND PVP, A BLEND OF INSPIRATION FROM THE BEST GAMES FOR THE BEST GAME
Ops: A round-based horde mode goes fantastically well with the design and spirit of the game. A great feature and fun challenge of ops is the regular appearance of horde of enemies. A round-based ops mode where you have to hold out a particular area against enemies that grow in size, difficulty, different composition would be a fantastic way to introduce challenge and also utilise the great engine the game is built on.
Something similar to the Horde mode from Gears of War 3, which was simple, fun and challenging, would bode very well for Space Marine 2. Using points earned from surviving each round erhaps players should be allowed to upgrade their weapons and perks even further / build and upgrade fortifications that slow enemy advance and provide you cover from ranged attacks / be able to spawn reinforcements of AI Space Marines / be able to purchase kill streaks (a temporary support from a Thunderhawk or a Dreadnaught) / be able to upgrade the speed of reviving your fellow brothers / be allowed to purchase unique power weapons from the Space Marine universe that is not available in a regular Ops loadout. Given the squad-based nature of the game, this will make squad cohesion/coordination/cooperation more important than ever as the difficulty progresses. This would not require a very big map like an Ops map, but a small map perhaps half the size of an Eternal War map can even suffice. Gears of war 3 Horde maps were not that big after all but brought so much fun.
Eternal War: Invaders progress different stages to capture objectives. Protectors fight to their death to defend each objective The current PvP mode is largely based on symmetrical maps. It captures the spirit of simple PvP very well as it is, but I think it can be taken to a whole new level by adopting Halo Reach Invasion / Battlefield Rush style mode. Given the various different battles in the history and universe of Warhammer, we can draw inspiration from various events to design such a map.
An example could be Space Marines deploying to close a Warp gate that is bringing in chaos marines. The Space Marines must work through 3 different areas that present different challenges. The first area consists of capturing a landing zone for a Thunderhawk that brings reinforcements. The second area can be activating a power generator that activates a nearby las cannon. The third area requires acquiring a targeting beacon needed to fire and close a Warp gate. Sorry if this is not lore accurate but I'm just throwing ideas out there! Or it could be Space Marines defending an ancient relic like depicted in this Youtube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3qo9idFYPc. It's almost like ops but with a PvP twist! Maybe 8v8 could also work here! It will be really interesting to see how teams split up into different squads of different class of Space Marines. The creativity, cohesion, tactical discussion and execution can be really fun and interesting here. This may really bring out the best of the different classes of Space Marines too!
Thank you devs! Sorry this is a very long post, but I hope this is interesting to you and the community, and some elements of it come to fruition. Thank you guys for reading and as always thank you for doing an awesome job with the game. You guys really proved that creating a high-quality game with a great range of challenges, unlockables, point-based cosmetics acquiring system, that costs was it 70 dollars?, is still a great way to win the hearts of players and build franchise. I hope you guys keep going with this franchise. It has been a while since I have really enjoyed a good game. Thanks guys!
