Hello, everyone,
As we said in a post last week, over the past few months there has been an increasing number of pictures of Spacegirls from TV and Movies, and fewer pictures from other sources, such as Cosplay, Comics, or Sci-Fi illustrations.
So far this year, over 50% of the spacegirls are from movies and TV. This is an easy thing to do, and a simple way to earn karma points on Reddit, but r/Spacegirls is suffering from a lack of diversity because of it.
One of our goals at r/Spacegirls is to promote artists and their work, and to acknowledge the achievements of real-life female astronauts. We can’t do that if they are drowned out by yet more pics of Leia in her metal bikini.
To try and change things, we have decided to ask you to stop posting pictures of Spacegirls from Movies and TV for a week, and to post Spacegirls from other sources, such as: Real Astronauts, Book Covers, Comics, Cosplay, Computer Games, Fashion, Pin-ups, or Science-Fiction.
The ban starts this week: From Sunday, 11 February, please don’t post any images from movies and TV.
You can resume posting your TV and movie space heroines on Sunday, 18 February.
This may seem harsh, but it is an experiment to see if we can halt an unhealthy trend and improve the variety of content in r/Spacegirls.
Best wishes,
Galimesh,
