Atmospheric Re-entry and Reusability on the BFR
Post Body
Both suborbital and interplanetary Earth return trajectories are going to cause a lot of heating and ablative drag on the BFR bottom/nose. The space shuttle had replaceable tiles and they had to be replaced every time, thus it was "refurbishable" not "reuseable."
Are there any indications about how the BFR will deal with those forces? Is the surface area large enough that the overall drag doesn't cause overheating in one spot?
Or maybe the super overcharged TWR means that a few tons can be spared to have special locking mechanisms for hot-swapping a lower heat shield (similar to Tesla Battery Swaps)?
Cheers
