As you may know, I'm not good at writing lore. But I've prepared some ... goodies ... and thought I'd give it a shot and provide some lore to frame the next few patches and updates. No kids, I'm not dead (yet).
I fummbled for my lighter in the darkness. As always, with every excavation, water had flooded my tunnel. Of course it had taken down all my torches and swept them away. Here it was. I lit it up. The cave around me was bathed in a dim red light, casting shadows. In the corner of my eye those things looked like spiders and creepers, but I couldn't be bothered to be afraid. Not now. I was so close. Finally an explanation to the sudden rise in ores. I moved forward, with every step echoing off the walls. Moving towards the rear end of the cave. There it was waiting for me.
I stood before a stone wall, older than me, older than most of this world. Something was etched into it. Carvings of past events. I traced the glyphs with my finger tips, trying to interpret them. As I moved the lighter closer to the wall, the grooves became more pronounced, and I could make out some of them. Blood... Price... maybe pay? This dialect was just too old for me to decypher on my own. Three glyphs were variations of a dialect I already knew. Or probably the other way around. Blood, Price and maybe mother? I wasn't sure. But what I had was enough. I took my note book and pressed a page onto the glyphs, tracing the shape with my pencil. If I couldn't decipher this, maybe someone else could. I had to get this back home. Suddenly I felt wind, no, something was breathing. Something was breathing down my neck, and suddenly I could hear a low grumble. Could it be? No. Those were tales. Old tales carved into stone by mad men, people who lived in holes in the ground, or in caves. Those were superstitious simple folks, delusional at best. But I could feel it, feel it breathing and hear it moving. I slowly turned around, and there it was.
The lighter dropped into a small puddle and was extinguished.
PS: If you like it, and I feel like it, I'll expand upon this with the next patches. The idea behind this is to provide a living world and story for you to enjoy while we fix things and introduce new stuff. Oh, and the book in the story with the glyphs is on the map, somewhere. The glyphs are made to be interpretable by someone with a little fantasy. Have fun :3
