Communication with people here is odd

I’m from the northeast for context. I’ve noticed that when I communicate with my coworkers, everything I say is taken very literally when it’s obviously a figure of speech or a pun. I have to explain when it’s sarcasm. People think I’m upset when I talk fast naturally. I don’t know if this is a south thing or a Florida thing specifically or maybe this is a culture clash that I’m unaware of, idk.
