Hello, as title states, I am looking for a soundbar primarily for PC gaming (am open to using it for the TV and/or console gaming as well if it's convenient enough for me to move them around easily).
I have been looking around online, and I feel like I have mostly settled in on at the least, these three soundbars (I am based in Australia, so will be putting up Australian prices):
- Creative Sound Blaster Katana V2 - the latest and greatest. Currently going for about AU$499.95.
- Creative SoundBlasterX Katana - the lowest I'm seeing this go for is currently AU$339.95. I have been eyeing this if I end up not going for the V2. For whatever reason, on Creative's online shop, the RRP for this is the same price as the V2, but it's currently like $160 off.
- Creative Stage V2 - the lowest I'm seeing this go for is currently AU$185. At a minimum I think this might be what I want to settle for, but there's still uncertainty.
- Creative Pebble V3 - going for about AU$60. This is what I was originally planning to get, until I started to sit down and thought about whether I want to invest in better audio.
Primarily up until now, I've been using some very old 2.1 speaker system that I first used all the way back in 2007 or so. Thus I don't really have much basis for comparison. But I am thinking of upgrading to something new.
I am not an audiophile by any means, I'm mostly an Average Joe who wants to enjoy the sound from his games. I primarily play JRPG's, so it would be really great to listen to a lot of the great music from the games in this genre, with the occasional action game or so.
I was thinking of getting at least the Stage V2, but I am wondering if there will be an audible difference for someone like me, compared to a standard 2.1 speaker setup (e.g. Creative Pebble Plus) if I were to get say either the Katana V1 or V2. However, as I understand, 5.1 surround in the Katana V1 or V2 seems to be rather simulated, as well as games supposedly in general not having much support for 5.1 audio to begin with. I do think that in general, the difference between 2.0 (Pebble V3) and 2.1 (Stage V2, Pebble Plus) would be easier to discern than 2.1 and 5.1 (Katana V1 and V2), but I could be wrong.
I have some pretty good headsets, but where I am now in life, I don't really use headsets for gaming much anymore, so I am looking to invest in a better speaker/soundbar system.
What's the best recommendation for someone who would like to foray into getting more out of their gaming audio?
EDIT: The last set of speakers I was using was the Creative SBS370.
