Hi! So I’m on E-Board this year and I’m the Parliamentarian, which is the third in the line of succession after President & VP for our chapter. An issue I’ve been seeing this year is that the committee chairs and members of E-Board are greatly slacking off in their positions and have dropped the ball more than once. Things like sending out reminders, updating things from last year, posting things on social media platforms, knowing when things are due, etc. A huge part to play in that is the fact that we lost about 1/3 of our chapter this past spring and all of the members of our previous board and most of our committee chairs. Additionally, we lost a large number of social leaders. I’m currently one of two members of E-Board with any leadership experience in our chapter and our President and VP have no prior experience.
Due to all of this, I’ve started to just pick up everyone’s slack. I’ve found myself doing small things that other positions overlook because it’s usually a quick fix, but it all adds up. Additionally, when anyone has questions about something, they’re usually funneled to me as I’ve built good relationships with a majority of the chapter. Even though it’s only the beginning of the semester, I’ve already felt this start to take a toll on my mental health. I’ve gotten extremely sick recently and have been spending so much time stressing about people not pulling their weight instead of studying, amongst other things. I feel like every conversation I have with my friends is just me complaining about a new thing that went wrong.
I really need to figure out how to mediate this soon as I feel like I’m just running the chapter from behind the scenes and I know it isn’t going to work in the long run. The President and VP are trying their best but they don’t have the tacit knowledge that I do and don’t catch things that are missing because they just don’t know what needs to be done. I’ve reached out to alumni and they’ve helped as much as they can but they don’t really know the entire situation of what’s happened.
Any ideas or suggestions of how I can help alleviate some responsibilities would be much appreciated!
tdlr: Brand new E-Board and committee chairs (except me) and people keep dropping the ball. I feel like I’m picking up all of the slack and it’s affecting my mental health.
