Question about season 3 ending.

So at the end of season 3, while everyone is trying to search for Jimmy O, Jax makes a stop at the cemetery and visits his father. He takes off the 'NS' ring and places it next to the 'SO' ring on his head stone. As many times as I've rewatched this I never understood why he deliberately arranges the rings to read 'NS' 'SO'. is there some sort of hidden symbolism on this or is it just a moot point?
