A good ten-to-twenty years ago, Sonic's Modern design had been excessively, absurdly, consistently criticized for stuff like his longer limbs, green eyes and slimmer body shape; basically the fact that it wasn't exactly like Classic Sonic. Those who grew up in that era, basically stretching from Adventure all the way up to Generations, know what I'm talking about. They hated the design because it was different, and that hate was very vocal online, especially when Sonic 4: Episode I came out.
But as someone who wasn't there during the fandom's most... confrontational points on the matter... did those entitled fans have the same issues with Eggman?
I don't recall anyone really being opposed to Eggman's noodle limbs, Michael Jackson jacket, giant goggles, or the removal of his cape and Mickey Mouse buttons. But the design is arguably just as much of a deviation to the classic look as Sonic's, so was there ever criticism about it on the same level as "nrrrrggggh green-eyes Sonic makes me wanna play in traffic"?
