So Sonic Fans always had this thing where if someone says something bad about a sonic game that hasn't released yet.
We tend to get upset...like....REALLY upset...Like someone personally insulted us.
We make excuses, we insult, we say wait for it to come out, it'll get polished.
I'm one of those people to a degree.
I make excuses and defend.
I don't go out of my way to insult people though, because I respect everybody opinions and being mean and nasty on the net does nothing.
But I'll be upfront and say I do get a sadden/upset by it at the very least and I do say the infamous "Give it time/Game isn't out yet/it'll get fixed"
With frontiers I've kinda realized this even more so.
As I find myself getting upset at negative first impressions after overwhelming positive ones.
Mostly because sonic is as big as he's been since the 90's right now.
The movie put sonic back in the eyes of people.
And to be quite honest its because I want sonic to win.
I can't understate how happy I was to see sonic frontiers win something at japan of all places.
I want this series to be respected and I legit can't stand all the hate it gets from people that know nothing about the series and their only exposure is from [--YouTuber that shall not be named but we all know who it is--]
Some people legit want it to fail for the meme's and to say "see sonic is a terrible series, its sh**"
Its honestly weird how attached some of us sonic fans are about the series I'll admit but idk. I just love this series and the character.
But this presents a problem.
Since some sonic fans defend to the bitter end, myself included; We also don't really help in making said games better because we don't criticize it enough.
This leads to--
Sega ends up listening to the wrong people.
People that don't care about sonic at all.
Now fans are finally being very vocal about bad decisions but this presents another problem...
They end up being VERY toxic/Jaded and everything they do talk about is a massive nit pick to many that don't agree and this ends up pissing off some other fans.
This also ends up overshadowing people that are giving out criticism respectfully, as they end up getting cussed out by people that feel they're just trashing.
This creates a big rift between the fan base and its where we are now.
We're at the point sonic fans are either calling eachother "bootlickers, hopium, defensive squad" and among other things from fellow peers.
Its basically a us versus them.
There is a reason talking about sonictubers is banned here.
It just leads to fighting.
Saying you're excited for frontiers, you'll be met with not people saying they're excited too but rather..
"Your standards are low, do better" -Most- of the time.
But don't get me wrong, it goes the other way around.
I've seen people that give out great criticism with no quips or insulting anybody get blasted by insults.
Now "most" fellow sonic fans, when they criticize, they do it as rudely as possible.
They use curse words, they act like if you like this You have zero standards.
Basically insulting everybody that likes that said something.
All n' All, talking about sonic just isn't fun most of the time.
Not many places are safe to be excited or give respectable criticism.
You can seldomly find excitement even among our own sonictubers.
It honestly feels like some of our own fans want sonic to fail.
I could go on but this was just something I've been thinking about after surfing the bird app.
Are you excited for frontiers but you also feel you can't be excited without someone coming in and telling you you're wrong?
Do you also feel you can't be give criticism without someone saying you're negative or claiming you hate sonic?
Thanks for reading yet another long winded post by shut-in.
