For context I have a line in a breakup song about a guy telling me to listen to this song from a quite popular gen-Z artist. I didn't copy any lyrics or melodies but I did reference the gist of the song and also the artist themself not by name but you would definitely know its the artist. Would I land into legal trouble with this? Would I need to pay to reference this person? I know songwriters reference songs and famous people all the time but what is the legality of that?
I wish I could post the line but I plan on releasing it so I want to keep it close to my chest as much as I can.
