How to get rid of furniture while moving out?

Hi everyone. I am moving out this weekend and I have a few furniture that I am unable to get rid of. No one would take it for free. Any ideas as to how I can have them taken away?
I see people place furniture on the curb but was told by a neighbor that I will get fined if I kept my furniture there. Any help appreciated. Thank you!
