How bad is the situation with al shabab?

I knew it was bad but not to this extent. How has the government not defeated them? How have other countries not interviewed?

I mean al shabab shot up a shopping mall in Kenya. I'd expect them to do an intervation of some sort since thier a treat to them.

I looked of information about it and I see some of the news reports being like 10 years old.

I don't understand how the country hasn't collapsed. Its like if isis manged to stay in power in Iraq and Syria for like 10 years with the government still fighting them for a decade.
