just a mild vent and sense of accomplishment
Post Body

I recently moved, I had been in my previous place for about 8yrs but when my lease renewal came up for this year they decided to raise my rent almost $200/mo and there was just no way I could feasibly maintain that without taking on another job (in addition to my already full time job and side hustle)

It just so happened that when I was needing to find a new place to live one of my exes was in the process of buying a house and so his old apartment space was available. And, because it's way brighter/roomier, downtown, and almost $300 cheaper than what I was already paying, I of course jumped on it.

He helped me move in and explained many of the "quirks" of the place to me, and approached many of them with an attitude of "that's just how it is, you'll get used to it" -- we're talking things like a stove that was so unlevel and wonky that everything you cook runs to the front left corner, a door knob that was put on backwards so it regularly popped itself open but you had to manually turn the knob to close it, a closet that didn't have any shelves/clothing rods other than a few leftover ones that were just kinda wedged in and barely staying up, and a door to the outside straight up not having a knob at all so you used a coat hook to open it ... like, WHAT?!

Anyways, I've spent most of today fixing all of these things myself, turns out the stove just needed the feet adjusted, the closet door knob just needed to have the middle latch doohickey thing flipped around, I went to the hardware store and got a new door handle (because grabbing a coat hook and pulling is not convenient at all), put together an actual shelving unit for the closet so that i had secure storage space, and there's a few other projects that require attention and I plan on getting to them.

Because of living alone, part of me wavered between "ugh, I wish I had a guy around to do this shit for me" and "hell yeah, I am woman, power tools do not scare me!" -- but overall, I've got a mild level of disgust for my ex that he just kinda accepted all these minor things that only needed a small amount of attention to fix.

And, a picture of my new place cuz I absolutely love it.
