A bit of a weird one I know but I figure if there's anyone who can give advice it's probably on this subreddit.
Basically I got a sodastream a few months ago and I've really loved having it. I love sparkling water and I've been enjoying the ability to make water a lot more carbonated than what is possible to get from bottled sparkling water. But after a month or two of drinking at least 2L of very bubbly water every day (don't ask how much gas I was going through) I noticed I was getting quite severe probems with my bladder/urethra. At first I thought I'd got a UTI because it was how they were described - much increased urgency and frequency of urination, burning pain when urinating etc. I would have to get up multiple times in the night just to pee a few drops and then wouldn't be able to get back to sleep because everything burned so much down there.
ANYWAY after getting tested and confirming it wasn't a UTI I realised it was the sparkling water so I cut it out entirely, and my symptoms got better over the next couple of months. I'm pretty much back to normal now except my bladder does feel a little weaker still.
I'm eyeing my sodastream, I really want to start using it again and just accept that I have to limit my water intake and not carbonate it too heavily but I'm worried that the issues will just come back anyway.
So I thought I'd make a post and just ask if any other sodastream enthusiasts have experienced similar issues and if you had any advice? Maybe you found a way to drink lots of sparkling water without it affecting your urinary system quite so badly? Or am I just doomed to live a life of flat tasteless water again?
I’ve been getting unexplained UTI symptoms/overactive bladder for years (everything has been ruled out) and I’m starting to wonder if it’s from drinking sparkling water all the time. I had no clue that this could be a possible cause
I’ve kept track of when I have problems and I have pinned it down to the following: too much sugar or carbohydrates, highly acidic foods, sometimes alcohol/caffeine, and too many carbonated drinks.
I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (inflammation of bladder lining with no specific cause), and the things I listed are common triggers. It mainly comes down to fixing diet and reducing stress

Both. Anything with bubbles in it pretty much.
