Bulletproof backpacks?

Y'all seemed like the sort to maybe know about this. I assume the concept is a shooter is going for center of mass, and the kid is hopefully running away, so it at least increases their chances of making it home. We live in a fairly small town. I know it isn't super likely, but it's always somewhere, so why not here, ya know?

My question is, I know they have them for sale out there, but I have no idea where a reputable place to buy one from would be. I figure there are a ton of counterfeit ones out there by fraudsters trying to make a quick buck. Also I'm broke as shยกt (aught to be OK's state motto), so price is a factor.

Don't do this.

There's a reason that, during an emergency of any kind, they tell you "drop your stuff."

An armored pack is going to weigh someone down, kid or not, and make them worse at doing the thing that's most likely to save their lives - running.

Any armor that's going to stop rounds is going to be heavy. It doesn't matter if it's in a backpack or a plate carrier.

I know the idea of a school shooting is scary but it's worth remembering that she's far more likely to be hurt by other things. Be sure she knows how to swim, make sure she knows basic first aid, pay attention to her emotional health so that if she starts to struggle with depression she doesn't consider suicide as an option, make sure she gets enough time to play, and make sure she gets her vaccines, dental work, and doctor's visits done. Those things will go much, much further in ensuring she has a good, long life than a backpack she's likely going to drop in an emergency anyways.

I try to talk about if this or that happens what would you do, but I'm no expert in this.

That's not really a productive measure. I can tell you what I'd do in this or that situation but until it actually happens that doesn't mean much.

It's not super helpful to instill a fear in her about something that's unlikely to happen. I know you want to look out for her well-being but making her paranoid is not super productive.
