The ministry of defence confirms negotiations between the USA and Norway about a military deal from the cold war. writes Nordnytt journalist BĂ„rd Wormdal.
The American newsletter Breaking defence writes there might be changes in american policies towards the northern areas.
In 1950 Norway and the USA joined the deal «Mutual defence assistance agreement between Norway and USA». Norway and The United States are now working on âmodernising this deal.â This is confirmed by the Norwegian presswatch for the ministry of defence Lars Gjemble.
The deal struck in the 1950âs led to Norway being given 300 fighter planes and 8000 military vehicles during the cold war. Up-until 1996 the collective value of the weapon help from The United States to Norway was 8,3 billion NOK.
The ministry of defence doesn't want to say anything about why they are negotiating this now, nor give any information about the content of the negotiation.
The Ministry is otherwise very sparse with information.
-It hasn't been set a date for when The United States and Norway will be done with the negotiations. Itâs too early to say anything about the negotiations now, says Lars Gjemble.
When Norway Struck the deal with The United States in 1950 it was out of a necessity to strengthen the defence, back then Norway was in need of foregin aid. For The USA it was about securing American Security interests.
The far more well-known civilian support from the United States to Norway, Marshall aid, was considerably less than the military support. Marshall aid to Norway was NOK 60 billion.
The United States and Norway are said to have accelerated long-term negotiations to renew bilateral cooperation - without saying why. The negotiations will be able to provide new regulations for American forces in Norway. A new agreement will also regulate bilateral military cooperation. The Department of Defense does not wish to comment specifically on the U.S. information.

Momma Jiang Qing additional words on the matter:
Recently the Norwegian government has come to a new deal with the Yanks called the «Supplementary Defence Cooperation Agreement». It gives The Americans the right to use so-called «Agreed Facilities and Areas» (AFA) that are here facilities on Norwegian Soil they can use for military purposes. There will also be more permanent American military facilities in Norway.
This is by media being portrayed as something positive, that the Americans only want to secure the safety of the nation. That they only want to work with Norway for good and peaceful purposes. In reality though The United States wants Europe in its ironfists and are making sure no one can turn their backs on them. From history we know that The United States never was a peace loving nation, during the first part of ww2 they played a dobble game to make sure they could profit out of whoever won, this was the game until Hitler declared war on the United states. When The Germans lost they were quick to spread their propaganda and make themselves seem like the biggest victor strategically and morally. The US propaganda continues till this day where we are being told that American soldiers stationed in Europe are necessary for our own safety and we are told that the wars in the middle east are good and just and also necessary.
The United States is still a nation that thrives on war profit and their allies like Norway, The UK, France, Germany and so on are getting their share too. Norway has helped The US without question in their blood for money game. Norwegians will often justify this by saying âwe are only in the war for humanitarian reasons.â How did Norway Help the people of Libya when they dropped 588 bombs straight at their heads?
Many people like to believe that Norway is a country that is truly fair and just, but this is quite far from the truth for what good and fair society would align themselves with a State that profits out of the misery of others and isnât it naive to trust such a nation?
