Question about SSI Review

My son receives SSI , he just started receiving it last year(April2020). He's received 1 backpayment (I was told he was owed back pay so it would be broken into payments) in almost a year. I receive a letter stating a Review on June 2nd. Do they usually do reviews in less than a year? Also how long of a time frame are back pay?
